What does it do?
Dilated fundus examination (DFE) is a diagnostic procedure that employs the use of pupil dilating eye drops to dilate or enlarge your pupil. It allows the optometrist to obtain a better view of the fundus of you eye and to look for signs of eye disease such as diabetes, retinal detachment, and other retinal issues.
Simple process
It takes 15-30 minutes for your pupils to be fully dilated. Once your pupils are opened, your near vision will become blurry and your eyes will be sensitive to light. Your eyesight will return to normal after 4-6 hours as the eye drop’s effects dissipate. It is recommended that you should wear sunglasses to reduce sensitivity to light, and driving is not recommended after an examination due to compromised vision.
Prevention is the best medicine
We recommend you to take this exam every two years as part of your regular eye check-up.
